Greta thunberg flyger

Transatlantic voyages of Greta Thunberg

Climate activist's sailing across the Atlantic Ocean

Climate activist Greta Thunberg made a double crossing of the Atlantic Ocean in to attend climate conferences in New York City and, until it was moved, Santiago, Chile. She sailed from Plymouth, UK, to New York, United States aboard the racing yacht Malizia II (the Italian for "malice"), returning from Hampton, Virginia, to Lisbon on the catamaran La Vagabonde. Thunberg refuses to fly because of the carbon emissions of the airline industry[1] and the trip was announced as carbon neutral. As a racing sailboat, the Malizia II has no toilet, fixed shower, cooking facilities or proper beds.[2]

Thunberg planned to stay in the Americas for some months, attending both the UN Climate Action Summit in September in New York and the COP 25 climate change conference which was scheduled to be held in Chile in December. However, at the end of October, while she was in the United States, it was decided to move the second event to Spain because of the Chilean protests.[3] She arranged to make the return voyage on board the catamaran La Vagabonde, departing on

Thunberg hade lika gärna kunnat flyga

Klimatrörelsen handlar inte om detaljer

Klimataktivisten Greta Thunberg ska ta segelbåten till Amerika. Hon vägrar flyga till klimatmötet i New York.

Segelbåten i plötsligt fokus

JD Vance’s Greta Thunberg joke at Munich Security Conference sparks anger in Europe; ‘Not acceptable’

US Vice President JD Vance took a surprising dig at Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg during a speech at the Munich Security Conference that was mostly critical of Europe's censoring practices. He even dragged Tesla CEO Elon Musk in his joke.

Stressing the assembled leaders that they should pay more attention to their voters, Vance said, if the United States could “survive” the backlash from Thunberg, then Europe could withstand that of Musk.

“Trust me, I say this with all humor,” he replied. “If American democracy can survive ten years of Greta Thunberg scolding, you guys can survive a few months of Elon Musk.”

His remarks were made in the midst of heated disputes about immigration, free speech, and populism between the US and its European allies.

Vance came under fire from German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, who claimed that Vance “called into question democracy for the whole of Europe.” “He is comparing conditions in parts of Europe with those in authoritarian regimes that is not acceptable.”

However, some users on X hailed Vance's speech, with one saying

Flight shame or flygskam (Swedish) is a social movement that discourages air travel due to its environmental impact, including outsized carbon emissions linked to anthropogenic climate change.[1] Originating in Sweden, the term was popularized by climate activist Greta Thunberg, with the movement alternatively known as an anti-flying or anti-flight movement.

Flight shame refers to an individual's uneasiness over engaging in consumption that is energy-intense with consequences for the climate and environment. It also reflects on air travelers as people involved in socially undesirable activities, and adaptive behaviour as described in the related Swedish term smygflyga (i.e. sneak-flying).[2]

The movement took off in in Sweden and gained traction the following year throughout northern Europe.[1]Flygskam is a Swedish word that literally means

JD Vance faces backlash for attacking Greta Thunberg while defending Elon Musk in Europe

MUNICH, GERMANY: Vice President JD Vance called out environmental activist Greta Thunberg in an attempt to joke about Elon Musk's growing prominence within the United States federal administration in front of European leaders on Friday, February 14, reported the Daily Mail.

Vance was delivering his address to the Munich Security Conference at the time, where he derided European governments on issues such as free speech, immigration, and democratic values.

Vance: Expressing opinions isn’t election interference even when expressed outside of the country and even when they are very influential. If America democracy can survive Greta Thunberg scolding, you can survive Elon Musk

JD Vance's crack at Greta Thunberg

Great Thunberg has been in the crosshairs of conservatives in the US for being vocal about environmental issues and encouraging protests across the world against climate change.

In his speech, Vance brought up the year-old Swedish national while defending tech billionaire and DOGE chair Musk, saying, "Trust me, I say this with all humor,
